Autumn Retreat:
The zen ox herding pictures-meditations & movements:
Heart Sutra & tao yoga
October 16th - 21st 2021
Zen Road Map of life.
The famous images provide a map for this retreat. With daily meditations on the heart sutra and daily waking dragon do-in/tao yoga this retreat will help access your deepest resource.
“the images offer insight. Together with certain meditations, inquiries and exchanges within, the images can act as a silent oracle….”
images and the silent narrative
traditionally, the ox herding images provoke narrative-who am I? where am I? Their most profound impact is in silent awareness or clarity or the reality of emptiness as experience through inquiry and meditation. This retreat will concentrate on no word formula to find resolution to our pressing questions, whatever they may be.
“abandoning tangible answers, this practice invites silent answers, unimagined words that provide a feeling of inexpressible completeness….”
Navigate the way home
direct insight into our current personal and global challenges. Practical applications of imagery, movement and meditation. A preparation and guide to higher, essential awareness, the intangible universal guide.
“no journey is ever undertaken completely alone. The great truth traditions do not seek separateness from life but to be part of its enhancement for the benefit of all beings…”
seeker and sought
meditations and contemplation in the heart sutra: who’s in search of an ox? The Heart and Diamond sutras are often companion texts to the images. All point to the same indescribable yet supremely efficient means to function beyond thought and habit.
“Understanding emptiness is in itself a koan. it’s like riding the ox in search of the ox. How can something [understanding] emerge out of no-thing [emptiness]? Clarity is a great healer and re-organiser. The images helps us arrive there….”
intangible but immense change
no more need to describe, to explain, what a relief! Who was asking anyway?
“ a test equal to any cushion sitting is just being and functioning in daily life. Why sit? We’ll sit to see why….’
The sources of transmission
Ram Chatlani offers insights from the One mind. He began practice of zazen as a daily life support in 1980. He taught for 6 years in the zen dojo of Lyon and maintains a strong connection with the source of zen and the One mind transmission, in particular through the master TaMo.
